The Importance of Theme Days
| "Since doing monthly theme days we have attracted more staff into our restaurant and not only on the theme days." Geoff Moyle, Catering Manager, Freeman Hospital |
Of course, besides decorating your restaurants and creating the right atmosphere there are many other things to consider when creating theme days. They have to look professional, they have to be different and create interest. All too often restaurants get into the habit of producing the same themes. Valentines Day becomes repetitive with its’ Cupids’ this and ‘Valentines’ so and so. Halloween with its ‘Vampires Blood’, and ‘Ghoulash’. We have all seen it. It is easy to see why; overstretched chefs and catering managers see it as a chore. A good theme day takes days of planning, thinking of a theme, trying to make themes different to create the interest, creating menus and quizzes, thinking up new recipes that can be associated with the themes. So much precious time being used up and, to keep the interest, a restaurants needs to produce at least one theme a month. All too often it simply does not happen and great opportunities are wasted. |
